How can fear affect my mental health?


Fear, like anger and anxiety, is a very natural and helpful reaction to life's challenges. The brain uses those familiar symptoms of increased heart rate, sweating, shaking etc. to alert us to potential danger. Without it we could compromise our safety many times each day. Fear becomes a problem for our mental health when that reaction triggers too easily, perhaps as a result of past experience or trauma. When our brain becomes over sensitive to potential danger we can become 'stuck' in our comfort zone, unwilling to take the slightest perceived risk, which in turn can lead to issues such as phobia and panic attacks, or even an uncomfortable feeling of being 'stuck' in life, wanting to make changes but afraid of the consequences. Hypnotherapy can help alleviate anxiety and reduce the fear response, allowing you to be more proactive in making the changes you need.

What are the symptoms of fear?

It's natural to feel many or all of these symptoms as part of everyday life, but if you are experiencing them very frequently for no or the slightest cause, it may be time to seek help:
