Hypnotherapy for Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are an extreme fear response to the world around you. They happen when your body's natural 'alarm system' is triggered disproportionately to what's happening at the time. This can lead to exaggerated and distressing symptoms and their onset can be repaid, intense and frightening. Panic attacks often occur when we are already experiencing heightened anxiety in our daily lives.

What is a panic attack?

A panic attack is an intense, exaggerated fear reaction with no obvious cause. Having one can be an uncomfortable and distressing experience, both emotionally and physically. It can last from five to twenty minutes or sometimes longer, and might be a single or occasional experience or part of a more frequent pattern. Those experiencing panic attacks can feel as if they have lost control, or that they are having a medical crisis, or even that they are dying. Panic attacks can be caused by past trauma, phobia, or generalised stress and anxiety. While deeply unpleasant, panic attacks in themselves are not harmful, and can be successfully treated with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

What does a panic attack feel like?

Having a panic attack can be an alarming ordeal. When a person has a panic attack, they will experience a sudden and intense feeling of fear. Panic attacks can take many different forms but some of the symptoms you might experience include:

  • An intense feeling of dread
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pounding heart
  • Feeling hot or cold
  • Feeling sick
  • Feeling faint or dizzy
  • Shaking or trembling
  • Churning stomach and/or needing to go to the toilet

How can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy relieve panic attacks?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help with panic attacks by reducing anxiety and building confidence and resilience, helping you regain control over these distressing symptoms and feel more positive in general about life.

In our Initial Consultation we can discuss your best hopes for a life free of panic attacks, and I'll explain exactly what is happening in your mind and body during one. Understanding the natural processes leading to these unpleasant symptoms can be an important part of stopping them! In subsequent Solution Focused Hypnotherapy sessions, I'll use careful questioning to help you build resilience and develop strategies to lessen anxiety and feel more in control. The relaxing effect of hypnosis can start to alleviate anxiety immediately, and over time your subconscious mind will absorb the positive messages and suggestions you hear to help realise your best hopes of a panic attack-free future.

Does Online Hypnotherapy work for panic attacks?

Online hypnotherapy is very effective for anxiety related conditions. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works for anxiety by combining positive talking therapy and coaching with hypnosis. During the first half of the session, we talk and avoid past problems, and instead focus on the future. You're encouraged to think and express yourself in a positive way which helps you to reduce your anxiety. Because hypnotherapy is a brain-based therapy, you'll also learn how the brain works in relation to your issues, but importantly what can be done to help you make changes to stop the cycle of anxiety so you can regain control and feel better.

Hypnosis reduces anxiety by using guided relaxation techniques to calm your body and mind. As you listen to your therapist, you will be guided into a relaxed state of focused attention by asking you to imagine certain things. Positive suggestions are made to help you make changes subconsciously by encouraging a shift in perspective. It allows your mind to reflect on the ideas and solutions discussed during our session to understand how they can help you.

The initial consultation and assessment is one of the most important sessions, the beginning of real focus and change.
