Getting enough sleep helps us build mental and emotional resilience so we’re able to deal with the demands, challenges and sometimes adversity of modern daily life. As we sleep, our bodies repair and restore themselves, it’s a chance for the mind to recharge and process all the information we’re bombarded with during the day and helps us prepare for the emotional challenges of the next day.
If you’re over 18, most adults need between 7 – 9 hours of sleep per night, children and teenagers need even more. If you find you’re sleeping less than 8 hours per night, then you’re probably being deprived of the sleep you need to function at your best.
The good news is that you don’t have to choose between health and productivity. By addressing any sleep problems and making time to get the sleep you need each night, your energy, efficiency, and overall health will go up. In fact, you’ll likely get much more done during the day than if you were skimping on shuteye and trying to work longer.

At night when we dream the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep is vital for memory and learning, making sense of the day. The REM phase also replenishes helpful hormones including which makes us feel good and gives us a boost.
