Hypnotherapy For Insomnia

As we sleep, our body repairs and restores itself, good sleep is very important. At night, when we dream, the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep is vital for memory and learning, making sense of the day. The REM phase also replenishes helpful hormones including those which makes us feel good and give us a boost. Most adults over 18 need between 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Children and teenagers need even more. If you find you're sleeping less than 8 hours per night, then you're probably being deprived of the sleep you need to function at your best.

Many people believe sleep comes naturally, but for an estimated one in three people in the UK, or one in two over the age of 65, getting a good night's sleep can anything but a restful experience. It can be frustrating, depressing, stressful and can significantly impair your health, work performance and quality of life.

What is Insomnia?

You may find yourself having difficulty getting to sleep, or wake up in the middle of the night, or lie awake for long periods before going back to sleep. Persistent insomnia can leave you feeling tired and frustrated, impacting your health, motivation and performance at work. It can even reduce your problem-solving skills, and reduce your ability to cope with stressful situations. Lack of sleep has also been linked to weight gain and reduced immunity.

It can be difficult to find the root cause of insomnia, but it can often be linked to a number of factors including anxiety and stress, poor sleep routine and environment, lifestyle factors such as drinking alcohol, or taking drugs, as well as ingesting stimulants such as nicotine and caffeine. Physical and mental health conditions can also have an impact on sleeping patterns.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help reduce your general levels of anxiety and calm your mind at night, helping you change your thought patterns and stop the cycle of rumination. You'll find it easier to relax and drift off into a deep sleep each night.

What are the symptoms of Insomnia?

Do you suffer from any of the following?

  • Difficulty falling asleep at night
  • Waking during the night and struggling to sleep again

  • Relying on alcohol or medication to help you sleep
  • Lacking energy and feeling drained during the day
  • Irritability, headaches and difficulty concentrating

How does hypnotherapy help with Insomnia?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you reduce your general levels of anxiety, helping you calm your thoughts at night, and helping you to relax and change your thought patterns so that you are no longer trapped in a cycle of negative thinking or rumination. It also teaches a calming relaxation method that helps your brain transition into stay asleep more readily. In fact, better sleep is one of the first improvements all my clients notice!

The good news is that you don't have to choose between health and productivity. By addressing any sleep problems and making time to get the sleep you need each night, your energy, efficiency, and overall health will go up. In fact, you'll likely get much more done during the day than if you were skimping on shuteye and trying to work longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Online Hypnotherapy Work For Insomnia?

Typically, better sleep is one of the first things that improve and clients notice as we work together, it becomes easier to get to sleep and stay asleep through the night which helps you feel restored the next day with more energy and focus. Hypnotherapy is very effective for improved sleep because it helps you feel calmer and reduces the underlying stress and anxiety which often leads to a bust mind and sleepless nights. Many clients find online hypnotherapy the better choice because it is just as effective as in person sessions, without the need to travel. It means you can feel relaxed in your own space no matter where you are in the world.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you sleep better and overcome insomnia by combining positive talking therapy with hypnosis (also known as trance). During the first half of the session, we talk without analysing past problems, and help you focus on your preferred future, e.g. how you want things to be.

You’re encouraged to think and express yourself in a positive way to help you think differently. And you’ll also learn how the brain reacts to underlying stresses and anxieties which causes disturbed sleep but importantly what you can do about it to use your brain in a more helpful way so you feel calmer as you learn to relax and restore your sleeping patterns.

Hypnosis is a good choice to overcome insomnia and disturbed sleep. Your hypnotherapist typically uses guided relaxation techniques to calm your body and mind and as you listen to you will be guided into a relaxed state of focused attention as you’re asked to imagine certain things. Positive suggestions are then made to help you make changes subconsciously to overcome unwanted habits and thoughts by encouraging a shift in perspective.
