Six things you need to know about Hypnotherapy online

When you need to stay at home or you don't have time to travel, the good news is hypnotherapy can be provided online. It's convenient, easy to access and just as effective as working face to face.

We're all becoming more accustomed to meeting people online via Zoom, Skype or Facetime. Recently, I've seen an increasing number of clients asking for online hypnotherapy sessions to give them the flexibility to access the support they need without always having to meet up face to face. I'm still often asked, is online hypnotherapy as effective as face to face hypnotherapy? Does hypnosis work online?

Well, of course my answer to both these questions is yes! There has even been recent research carried out which proves that online therapy is just as effective. Here are the top six things I'm asked about online hypnotherapy which you may find useful if you're looking for support but can't visit the clinic in person:

1. What is online hypnotherapy exactly?

Online hypnotherapy is a safe and convenient alternative to face to face sessions. It is just as effective as working together in the clinic and follows the same structured approach. It's useful if you are restricted by time, location, family commitments or medial conditions, making it accessible to all.

The initial online consultation via Zoom, provides a safe and secure connection and gives us the opportunity to trial the process before committing to future sessions. You'll just need a quiet comfortable and private place at home or work to talk and relax without the need to spend time and money travelling and parking!

2. Is online hypnotherapy as effective as face to face hypnotherapy?

Absolutely, online hypnotherapy is just as effective there is no difference. Some people feel even more relaxed and comfortable working from their own home or office which can only add to the positive outcome as we work together. In fact, recent research backs this up and with one report concluding that online therapy lead to better progress and was more effective compared to face to face therapy. Similarly, a systematic review in the Journal of Medical Internet Research (Vol. 14, No. 4) stated that results "indicate that e-therapy seems to be at least equivalent to face-to-face therapy".

3. Can hypnosis be done online?

Hypnosis doesn't reply on having a therapist in the room with you. We all go in and out of this hypnotic state, also known as 'trance' several times a day, often when we're focused on the task in hand. Have you ever been watching a good film or reading a book and completely lost track of time? Trance is a very natural and safe state where you'll remain in complete control and can easily achieve as long as you can hear the guided relaxation.

As humans, we all need times where we can relax, reflect and consolidate information which why Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be so beneficial, because it combines powerful solution-focused discussions, followed by trance work so that the ideas and solutions discussed can then be explored and utilised by the brain for positive benefit.

4. How does hypnotherapy work on Zoom?

Using Zoom for virtual hypnotherapy sessions couldn't be easier. Once we've agreed a time for your session, you'll just need a reliable internet connection and a quiet comfortable place to relax. I'll send you a unique link for each session which is safe and secure and only you will have access to it. Zoom is very similar to Skype, just click your link and follow the instructions to join your session. You can use your laptop, tablet or phone to join your session.

We'll spend the first half of the session talking and exploring the positive things which have happened and focusing on solutions and the promotion of new ideas to identify a way forward. You'll then relax, and I'll ask you to get comfortable so I can still see your face and I'll guide you into a state of focused attention where your mind is more responsive to suggestions. The session ends with a quick chat we'll talk about your progress and we can book your subsequent session.

5. How do I know of hypnotherapy online will work for me?

Online hypnotherapy is just as effective there is no difference. It's important that you choose the right therapist for you, someone you like, trust and feel comfortable talking with.
